I love a good mystery. Who doesn’t? Suspense – escalating music – edge of your seat goodness – what could be better? Unfortunately, I have a bad habit of guessing the ending, and 9 times out of 10 I’m right. It’s a little frustrating actually. My husband attributes it to my story writing/telling abilities. I can usually see the outcome of a decent story within the first 5 minutes of it being told. That said, more than I love seeing/reading a good mystery – I LOVE creating one.
Five weeks ago I went to the doctor for an ultrasound. It was a little early by pregnancy standards – 18 weeks – but it was absolutely the last day I was insured before we started our drive across the country towards our new home. After being pushed and prodded for close to 40 minutes the ultrasound technician asked my husband and I if we wanted to know the sex of the baby – and we did. He positioned the baby on the screen and said, “Well it’s a little early, but I’m 60% sure you’re having a ________. You should probably get another ultrasound in a few weeks for diagnostic reasons anyway – they can tell you for sure then.” Sixty percent?! That’s only ten percent more sure than I was if we’re having a girl or a boy! I guess this is one mystery I really couldn’t predict.
Fast forward – we’re now at 23 weeks, and I’m 100% sure. It feels much better than 60. I am also aware that knowing doesn’t change the way I feel about Baby T, I just like knowing. Now it’s like this little secret I get to carry around until I choose to share it with my loved ones. And what better way to share than with CAKE! It’s my favorite cake by the way – a very light and fluffy cake that lends itself to lots of different flavors – vanilla, almond, berry, or really any kind of extract you’d like to add in. And when I’m not so excited about tell you our awesome news I’ll share that recipe with you.
I should mention that I had planned to tell people differently, but after some majorly frustrating crafting fails I decided the best way to tell my family was with something yummy. My AMAZING husband knowing that I wanted to share with everyone else who couldn’t come over for cake made me and awesome page on his website – so if you’d rather guess than be told stop reading and GO HERE.
So what’s inside? Is the suspense killing you? Here let me help.Better? No? Would it help if I told you it was a raspberry cake? No? It didn’t help my brother’s guessing either. Drum roll please……Tah-dah! I gave my mom the honor of cutting the cake – I wanted to see the look on everyone’s faces (and obviously snap a quick photo)! It was a fantastic surprise.
I love being able to surprise other people – it’s really gratifying. So yay for the first grandson/nephew/boy cousin in our family! And even though my original attempt at surprising everyone wasn’t successful – I still got to have my cake and eat it too. And boy, oh boy was it delicious!!
